Just a thread for anyone else out there who prefers the layout of a 6-button controller to the more dominant ABXY layout. What I wouldn’t give for a dual stick, dual trigger gamepad that also had six face buttons.

Never used one of these before so I don’t know how well they work in practice, but more buttons are always welcome as far as I’m concerned.

I have the one in the photo (an 8bitdo m30) and it’s pretty good for most games. What tends to be the stumbling point is how many buttons the game expects you to press simultaneously: pressing A + X + L is a lot easier than A + X + Z. As long as you’re not expected to mash though having the extra face buttons is just great.

The Sega Saturn controller was the best (2D) controller made, and I will die on this hill.

Although a suitable (more recent-ish) alternative was from Mad Catz of all companies, with their XB360 Street Fighter 4 pads.

My go-to “standard” gamepad is a Mad Catz, actually. A lot of their controllers are weird and wonky but some of them are absolutely legit.

Also I had no idea they even made such a thing. That looks fantastic. Thanks for the heads up.
