If anything, as long as local-run models get better, the power and potential for individuals to expand past their expertise grows. We’re in a transitionary period, where what helps the good also helps the bad, but what harms the bad also harms the good much more.
As a general rule of thumb, you need about 1 GB per 1B parameters, so you’re looking at about 405 GB for the full size of the model.
Quantization can compress it down to 1/2 or 1/4 that, but “makes it stupider” as a result.
I’ve noticed that performance starts slowing down when you get near full on these drives sometimes.
None of these drives are problem drives iirc… if anything, how full are the drives percentagewise?
What’s the make and model of the things?
This is the “can’t get a Word Document macro virus because I use the Corel WordPerfect Document type” kind of energy.
How about running an Opnsense VLAN routed through the VPN, so your PC doesn’t have to have a client side VPN app and just assumes by normal router function its WAN IP is the VPN IP, and being in an isolated VLAN it is a device that lives solo on its own little network.
The reason I have been switching my systems over to Fedore KDE is because of Wayland
Pretending linux privelege escalation doesn’t exist… to fight something that gets root you have to be able to fight at the root level, or the root access malware can simply nuke the av from userland.
I was fine with LXDE… until it got abandoned for LXQt… which is alright, but it’s more “kit car hackjobby” in its presentation than LXDE.
Everywhere except in the USA’s Republican states. It’s an unforgiveable sin to be seen with a mask on there for stupid reasons.
I mean, maybe that computing performance would be useful in the future for things that aren’t just ai shovelware. As long as it progresses making this kind of calculating energy efficient, I don’t have a problem with it.
I would that too
Was reading about the latest malvertising exploit on bleepingcomputer when lo and behold, said malvertising ad hit and tried to take over my PC.
That was the last time I used the internet without an adblocker.
I do have to admire the irony of a malvertising ad hitting bleepingcomputer on the article about said ad.
