Really though it’s a new-ish term, and highly subjective. WW1 was the Great War until it popped off again. For a modern thought experiment - could the war on terror be considered a world war? Much of the world’s fighting power was dragged into it to some degree, but most people would say no.

Long story short, it’s a ‘world war’ when historians decide it was.

I wish they didn’t feel this pressure to push forward the industry with EP3. Full Half Life 3, maybe, but I would have preferred a closing chapter with the tech and features available.

Local LLMs can be compressed to fit on consumer hardware. Model formats like GUFF and Exl2 can be loaded up with a offline hosted API like KobaldCPP or Oobabooga. These formats lose resolution from the full floating point model and become “dumber” but it’s good enough for many uses.

Also noting these models are like, 7, 11, 20 Billion parameters while hosted models like ChatGPT run closer to 8x220 Billion

Accurate PHP mindset on so many levels

I inherited a C# code base that had a custom runtime loader for APL modules. Over half of the app was actually written in APL with C# just hosting the API… so yeah, had to learn that. I don’t recommend it but some people seem to really love the language. Those people are often statisticians, not programmers.

Dunno if I count but I read an article about Fediverse tech in like idk 2020, which lead me to mastodon and lemmy. I created an account on kbin but rarely used it except curiosity before API shit hit the fan.

No worries, it’s all good! It’s basically two identical drives. The backup drive doesn’t get much use outside of the rsync process, but if the main drive fails, I am able to jump onto to the backup drive without much interruption. Before rsync runs it does a comparison and only moves modified files, so it’s not a bulk rewrite every week- just brings the target up to parity with the source. If both of these drives kick the bucket at the same time I guess that will just have to accept it as very bad luck lol, only so much I can do. But the plan is when the main drive fails, backup will get promoted to main until I’m able to backfill another drive.
