  • (UK) All three are technically correct, but 1 and 3 are the most commonly used. 1 is casual and the most frequently said (mainly because it has fewer syllables and we humans are lazy).

Edit: Thinking about this more. Phrase 1 is what you would normally use when you desire something that is not shared with others, for example:

“I found this old slice of bread behind the sofa…”

    “I want that!”

Or “This week’s jackpot is 1 billion pounds!”

    “I WANT THAT!”

Phrase 2 or 3 are normally used when you are expressing a common desire.

“I wish this skyscraper would just fall on top of me so I don’t have to go to work tomorrow” “I want the same”

“I wish Uncle would stop drinking.” “I want this too, but he is very thirsty.”

The reputation comes from the US military being stationed in the UK during the height of WW2 rationing when there was an extremely limited list of ingredients to cook with. They were unable to associate a country under an attempted siege from U-boats with a reduced supply of food.

We do have a love of beige food at times, but it’s essentially our version of chicken tendies.

Been to the US a few times. Your food tastes extremely average and the only difference to anywhere else is that it has about 3 times the kcals and half the nutrition. I’ve had heartburn and constipation virtually every time I’ve visited.

And your beer is possibly the worst in the world. It’s pisswater.

With opinions like that I’d be surprised if you’ve even left your own state, let alone the country.

  • I disagree with cordless Dysons. We have the V8 Animal and it’s pretty pathetic. It struggles to pick up anything denser than dust and the very smallest of crumbs, and the battery life isn’t enough to do a full clean of a house in one go. Most of the time we have to get out the old corded one to finish what the cordless couldn’t. I think brands like Shark and Vax are supposed to be better but I’ve not tried them.
