Common misconception. English and German are West Germanic languages with a common ancestor, whose ancestor in turn is common among Norwegian, Gothic, Saxon, etc etc. The only influence German has now is the odd loanword, like Weltschmerz and Schadenfreude. English loaned a lot of words from French a thousand years ago because Norman was the substrate language in England a thousand years ago and is still a sort of prestige language. Dutch is much the same but you never hear anyone say that.

I think that’d only help improve your confidence, because you could so easily be translating wrong thinking you’ve done it right, then establishing what you’ve wrongly said as a habit.

If the actual problem is that you yourself are too hot, cool yourself instead. A trick I’ve picked up working in kitchens, where it’s very fucking hot indeed, is to wet your nape and forearms regularly. You can wear a wet hat too. Doesn’t really take advantage of the unlimited water but it gets you there.

I’ve tried it, and it’s quite good and heavily customisable, but a pain in the arse if you want to use more than one language. I think their Dutch version doesn’t even work if I recall correctly.

We know for certain that Gboard accesses the internet at least so it’s not out of the question. I’ve settled on Openboard, and my only problem with it is that the UK English keyboard suggests American spellings, but I’ve read that that’s a problem with all open source keyboards because of the .dict file, so I’m currently settling on the latter side of the dilemma between sacrificing privacy for Gboard and putting up with being recommended American spellings.

Not many situations where you can use the phrase “I’ve often been born”.
