Are homeless people going to start mysteriously disappearing now
I’m not so sure. I check in on the hot mess that is Twitter from time to time and it looks to me like the advertisers are returning from the ads that I have seen. I think it comes down to how willing Musk is to burn money on when Twitter actually dies and I bet he can find friends of a certain type to sell equity too to keep the shit show going.
I think we have reached the point that those that are willing to hold their noses are staying and those that aren’t have gone and that’s your new user figures.
I thought they were using the ml domain as they were cheap / free ? Or am I missing the joke?
I never got the argument that it’s hard to sign up to. I think the main issues are that people want content from media entities that may not be present or welcome - legacy media etc. This could be where threads.net fills the gap but then it sounds like they will be blocked from a lot of instances.
I have worked around it via press.coop but they don’t cover everything. I also follow more journalists directly than I did on Twitter. I don’t miss Twitter and find Mastodon more informative but I’m sure that’s because of the information I’m looking for.
Rounded is the new thing? Aren’t YouTube videos also rounded now
Soon it will be pay for Spotify on the same tier but also hear ad’s.
I assume this is the solution for celebs, public figures to confirm who they are (If they pay for premium)
Could be that BBC employees can have their own accounts on mastodon going forward
Awesome news! Hopefully more media follows suit!
That instance hosts news feeds copied from Twitter. I found it useful to replace what I used Twitter for mostly. I’ve since found other mastodon users to follow, you just need to lurk about a bit and look at what’s trending.
https://press.coop/directory helps for following news feeds 👍
Certainly full of detached CEO’s
The average user is not even going to know this was a thing
