You can find plenty of ISO files on archive.org. I’m not sure about the legality of it, so I’ll say I don’t condone doing it, etc. But some of them have been there for several years, so I think MS doesn’t care.
Just be careful about clinking links in the user comments. People have been known to post shady links and moderation seems to be lacking, from what I’ve seen.
Good luck getting your game to run! Oh, and long live archive.org!
I have a virtual machine with WinXP and one with 98, for when I’m feeling nostalgic :)
Sorry to hear you have to use Windows… I’m still stuck on 10 but I’ve been enjoying the hell out of Mint Xfce and I’ll complete the move soon enough!
Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot like a monkey
That was from Future Perfect, though 😁 I’ve never played the first one, but 2 and 3 are great!
Dunno why PowerToys isn’t bundled by default tbh.
PowerToys give the user more power, which goes directly against Microsoft’s own goal.
Also, less seriously, “toys” implies the user might enjoy the experience, and you know they can’t let that happen.
I’ve also cone to realize that this is the real purpose of ads.
Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world, you have the right idea, but the other key thing you should remember is to never talk about the corps to anyone, even if you’re dragging their name through the mud. “No such thing as bad press,” as they say.
It’s good to denounce the practice, but it seems naming and shaming specific companies just doesn’t work anymore at this stage.
It’s a shame some of the better components have baby-sensory RGB lights tacked on. I’d have bought my parts plain if that was a convenient choice.

I haven’t had a crash happen on that screen but it takes its fucking time loading a non-paginated list of thousands of elements. And there’s no search bar IIRC. MS made this process as painful as possible and I’m convinced that that’s exactly the way they want it.
I’ve seen fonts on all kinds of filesharing sites like Mediafire etc. But archive.org feels like a good bet for some kind of longevity. As for making it findable, I’m afraid I can’t think of any advice.
Yeah, I’m in a similar spot with After Effects. I think there’s just nothing out there that comes even close for motion graphics, except maybe Blender. I simply haven’t taken the time to learn it.
By pure coincidence I found a font just last night that I had been searching for, on and off, for years—on archive.org of all places. Kind of funny that you came back and replied to my comment today in your post about fonts 😄
Out of curiosity, did you ever find a solution for removing the DSIG data?
If anyone here wants a fun way to memorize more digits, enjoy this song!
Really glad I have a legit reason to share this old thing
I am a banana!
This is just off the top of my head from a bit of experience in KSP, but depending on the thrust-to-weight ratio of the engines, it would probably be able to take off, but you’re right, it wouldn’t win any fuel economy awards.
Actually I doubt any material could stand that kind of wing loading, and the aerodynamics would probably be all kinds of fucked. Pretty apt analogy for a beginner developer.
I feel ya. The two most recent titles are anything but the traditional Zelda experience. I do love open-world games though, so I’m cool with both of them. But I do miss the classic Zelda adventure game, where every location has its own theme music and more emphasis is placed on the temples/dungeons. It’s a shame Aonuma said that the future of the series is open-world, but honestly it’s amazing that they’ve been able to keep it fairly fresh, if a bit formulaic, for 30+ years.
IIRC it runs worse than BotW which is kind of shocking to me. I mean, yeah the game is much larger in scope, but it runs on the same engine, and you’d think they would have been able to optimize the hell out of it.
I started my TotK playthrough a few weeks ago and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been taken out of the experience when the FPS dips below like 10. And this is with no action happening in the scene. Not to take anything away from the overall product—the game is magnificent—but I’m really curious as to what their lower bound was in terms of acceptable performance.
I haven’t been bothered by any shadows, and I think the camera is quite nice (so far), but I’m right there with you regarding emulation. Pretty soon I’m gonna try to dump my own cart and get it working on a more capable machine. I don’t need 4K res, or AA, or texture filtering. Just let me get a little immersed without poor hardware standing in my way. And if I want to play it on the go, I’ll use my Deck.
I remember reading about how silicon is theoretically possible, but I had (erroneously) assumed there were more potential candidates. Thanks for the additional info. This stuff is so fascinating!
I’m also talking out of my ass, but it could be because on a subconscious level it reminds us of being in the womb when all sounds were perceived through basically a low pass filter.
It’s impossible to tell if that’s an indictment of the people’s attitude or the “healthcare” system. Probably both. This country sucks rotten ass sometimes.
I hope you don’t expect their next OS to be good, whether they call it 12 or otherwise. Skip all Windows from now on, IMO
