Half a century and counting
Ha ha ha ha, no. We do have savings so at least some cushion but I took years off when my kids were born, got a late start in college, started a career later, I would say I got the time when I needed it I guess. But not likely to have enough to take time off paid work again at the end.
Most people don’t get to decide, they get disabled or laid off & cannot find work and are forced into retirement. I’m in good shape and work in an office so probably can keep going as long as jobs last for me, and our life will be better if we keep working.
No, you is the singular; y’all is the plural.
All y’all works because you might say “All of you all”, I suppose.
What’s mmj? Medical weed? I like the cities here in Florida, but can understand, it’s not the right time to move here anyway, houses are overpriced right now and rent is too.
I changed my mind on marriage, it was never my dream but my now-husband really wanted us to be married, and it did help with his status at schools and stuff regarding my kids and mine with his kids, has streamlined a lot of stuff like signing up for benefits at work, I still think it’s kind of silly to license relationships, but it’s been a good experience overall.
I’m paid twice a month and they call it semi-monthly here though, husband is paid every two weeks and his company calls that biweekly.
I would never use bimonthly to mean twice a month, and haven’t heard anyone use it that way in real life; but the only thing that happens twice a month for me is payroll, so it hasn’t come up in conversation outside of that.
I guess I share in your outrage then.
Eh? Semi-monthly is twice a month. Bimonthly is every two months.
Semi-weekly is twice a week, biweekly is fortnightly, every two weeks.
They work the same.
Does she have curly hair? Manes by Mel is good.
I don’t think you need to interfere in her look though, if she’s dissatisfied with her style she will figure it out. You could sit together somewhere and just critique the outfits of people who walk by, out in the real world.
We are here for you at !cocktails@lemmy.world if you would like to drown your sorrows in something delicious.
A Crow Strike sounds both glorious and terrifying.
I miss the non-sexual nudes threads, Normalnudes and NakedProgress. I miss the nice places like ABraThatFits. I miss having enough of a user base to have a city specific subreddit.
I don’t miss having to take down tens of posts every day in the aforementioned nonsexual nudes threads as a mod helper, because nobody could follow the rules, so to keep it a place for real people it took a lot of culling of mean comments and isolated boner pics and ladies promoting onlyfans.
I thought I’d miss the busy R/Cocktails but love maintaining the small one here and in nearly a year have had only two reported posts, it’s just so much nicer here.
And when I’ve ventured back, it’s worse even than it was. So many ads.
I got away with so many things like this at my previous job because nobody dreamed I would do it so never, ever was I suspected (older white lady and in a comedy routine I would be the straight person). Accounting often works late though. So I’d move a tyrannosaur toy around, change the after hours sign to say things like “after 5 please dance”, put funny things on the printer glass. Others were always suspected. I never even blinked and they never knew who.
At our last office, the accounts receivable department decorated for Halloween and put a stuffed dummy I a chair in the hall. Then ON Halloween, put their chubby intern in the chair in the outfit instead. Scared the heck out of most of upper management. Very good day at work.
At the job before that, on April fools day, I got each of the ladies working in my department (including me) to go separately into the boss’s office and tell him we were pregnant, giving the same month as when we were due. He didn’t figure it out until #4.
Biggest hurdle? My husband.
Joking! Really, I never dated when young, just hung out in groups, right? And there would be hookups and then eventually that leads to some relationships. So I never got the hang of the one-on-one dates.
Even after my big breakup with my ex, didn’t really date because while I intended to, my now husband had other ideas, he had been dating for some years and said he knew when we met what he wanted so it got serious pretty fast.
But as you say it’s hard to meet people - I understand that, I don’t know how young people find people if they aren’t running around in packs like we used to. That network of people who know you, and also know other people, and might introduce you if they think you’d like each other. Dating apps are more like job searching.
Anectodally - the young people I knew who were going to sit out the presidential election because they were so mad it was just two ancient white men, or were mad because Gaza, now say they will vote for “whoever the democrats run”.
Which is only two people, but she has at least some votes that otherwise would have gone to nobody.
Yeah I am a certified member of the itty bitty committee and am currently in a perfectly fit 34D, and my measurements would put me in 32DD.
Those letters just don’t really mean anything without the band size. Nobody, literally nobody, would look at me and think “D cup”.
Bras really need more than two measurements. I need the band of a 32-34, the wire diameter dimensions of a 34D and the volume of what I think of as a 34 B. I can find this in particular models of bras but it would be nice to have it on the label.
I’m not sure I could condense my work like that. If I have 3 hours of work I want at least 4 hours to do it in. And if you decide you can condense it, employers will simply double everyone’s workload, and we are not computers. Maybe 3 hours of work is all anyone can do in a day, and some of us can do it in 3:15 but most of us like to spread it over 8. Plus there are insights that only come in non-active time, again, we aren’t machines.
One of my kids is named Ivy and she was the first to learn how to write it because it’s one stick, two sticks, three sticks. Her under 2 year old sister was at the library once and pointed to a book and said “Ivy” and yep, that was on the spine of the book. So I love that word because it made two of my kids understand written language.
I consider it a cool color because I can usually wear it and look good, and generally cannot look good in warm colors. But never thought of it as a red or a blue just purple.
I’d like to have a deep understanding of a few things, a pretty good understanding of more things, a passing knowledge of a lot of things, and think it’s impossible to know a whole lot about a whole lot of things.
I think it’s fine to say you have not the means to evaluate the sources of “information” available to you, if it’s not something immediately necessary to you. As I said to someone else, your time and attention are not unlimited resources. Better to use them on things that matter to you.
