You get an achievement for getting 1st. You can keep defending and stay at Diamond level if you care but there’s not really an incentive to do so unless you want the gems/Lingots for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
There is also a Diamond Tournament but I’m on Android and don’t have access to that yet.

Interesting. I’ve never known the term counterfeit to be anything other than “fake imitating real”. In this case, a company creating unapproved copies, it makes sense and there doesn’t really seem to be a better term to describe their actions, but it is confusing with a surface read of the issue.
