  • 3 mini PCs, 4 players each, round robin Mario Kart tournament.

I semi-regularly need between 6 and 8. When I throw a barbecue there’s live music, a large selection of meats with plenty to snack on while everyone is waiting for the brisket and ribs to finish up, vegetarian options that are more than just sides or salads, vegan options if any of my vegan friends stop by, games like darts and cornhole, video games, drinks, and general fuckery.

I like to do it big and I’ve got the means and space to do that.

  • I get the cheap GameSir controllers and they work fine. I’ve got probably 10 of them running around and I need to grab two more to replace my dying Stadia controllers. None have given me a moment of trouble.

That said, I’m not picking up two more if there’s a new steam controller coming. I’ll wait. I don’t usually need more than 8 at once so I can put it on the back burner for now until I need to host a holiday.

  • I did this briefly years ago for a hotel chain (the booking, not the stealing). We got an extra quarter for everyone we transferred to another department for deals or some shit. We were supposed to ask people if they would like to hear about it but I found out that as long as it transferred they could immediately hang up and I still got my bonus. After that every caller I had got transferred to the other department for the rest of the time I worked there.

I made an extra few hundred bucks and got canned about the same time I found a job in my field. No FBI involved, though.

  • There are plenty of 3P and R2 series robots running around. There’s no reason to believe he thought he knew them.

Further, there’s a comic where he sees C-3PO’s blasted body and has a flashback. So even though they didn’t share the screen, Vader did share a moment.

My actual biggest issue is that Vader stood in front of Leia and didn’t seem to have any idea that she could use the force or that she was his daughter.

  • Someone was lightly victimized in this, but no one was upset and it was all in good fun.

Years ago, my buddy taped an air horn under his boss’s chair. We worked in a bullpen and the boss had a fishbowl office in the corner. He came in and sat down and of course it went off. Boss fell out of his chair, everyone stopped working, and everyone’s morale was super high the rest of the day, especially the boss.

The boss had never felt like part of the team. Most of us had worked together for years and we all played light pranks on each other. He came much later. It was the first time he really felt like one of us.

  • I loved them for a long time and was around since the beginning as well. When they opted everyone into Buzz without their consent I became real cautious about what I share with them. I still use some services, and even used Stadia when they had it. However, I’m ready for them to turn anything off at any time and don’t share any info with them that I wouldn’t want public.

  • I have HoloISO running around on mini PCs because they just work as remote steam machines, can play games in their own right, and I can use them as media boxes if I want. I don’t necessarily recommend it, but it was super easy to install and configure except for the Bluetooth issue that cropped up occasionally where I had to unload and reload the Bluetooth module. Now I just have a script that automatically does that on boot because I can’t give a shit about fixing it.

I also have a couple of Slax USBs running around. They used to be relatively popular with folks who fixed computers. I like building from modules and I’m familiar with Slackware so it was a good fit for a live environment.
