I was going to add, as a user of both Steam and YouTube, I have seen far worse stuff in YouTube comments than I ever have on a Steam forum.

I think part of this comes down to the fact that disgusting, hateful comments will pop up on almost any YouTube video in the comment section, but you actually have to navigate to Steam forums with this content.

So, YouTube comments are thrown in your face and hard to not see, as they are right below the video, but Steam forum comments are at least hidden behind a few layers of clicks.

In university computer science, in the states, MS server was the main server OS that they taught my class during our education.

Microsoft loses money to let the universities and students use and learn MS server for free, or at least they did at the time. This had the effect of making a lot of fresh grad developers more comfortable with using MS server, and I’m sure it led to MS server being used in cases where there were better options.

My Windows gaming PC is completely fine right now, because I don’t use crowd strike. Microsoft didn’t have anything to do with crowd strikes’ rollout or support.

I love Linux and use it as my daily driver for everything besides some online games. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize Microsoft and Windows, but crowd strike breaking stuff isn’t one of them, at least in my opinion.

Most people who actually have dark humor don’t really have to bring it up in conversation that often, because they aren’t assholes who use it as an excuse to say slurs and hateful/hurtful things.

I agree with a caveat. If you are looking up documentation for an API or something software engineer adjacent, I think its fair for the authors of the documentation to assume the reader has a background in computer science, and shouldn’t have to explain topics that are explained in computer science curriculum. Same with other documentation that is intended to be used by specialists in their respective fields.

Still, it is known that Valve employees are partially compensated with stock for working in the company, so most of the employees are still shareholders. They just aren’t the major ones.
