Generally though when you update Mint you won’t get bombarded with 20 UI changes and some AI crap and naggin and advertising and strong arm tactics to get you to use their cloud services.
It’s not for everyone and that’s ok.
I’ve been using Linux since 98 and never have I ever seen it in so many conversations. 18,000 windows games now run. Distros like Bazzite and the Steam OS are getting kids into Linux. My son… Windows die hard that he was just told me he is not only running Linux but has canceled all streaming services and is hosting his own server. There’s never been a better time to help people get into the fold.
If you have a game that only runs on windows right click on it go to manage and chose compatibility then pick the latest version of proton and relaunch the game. To do it globally First, log into Steam using your login credentials. Then, click on “Steam” in the top-left corner, and select “Settings”. Go to the “Compatibility” settings, then locate the “Steam Play” section. Toggle on the “Enable Steam Play for all other titles,” choose the latest Proton version from the dropdown menu, click “OK,” and restart Steam. My whole library works.
I tried out Bazzite and was pretty happy with the out of the box gaming. Think I’ll consider it for the wife’s laptop when 10 runs out. Kinda torn about giving her a dual boot with LTSC 10 and Linux or just going full in because it’ll be me on the support end.
Yeah the ai slop has increased 200 percent. I’m seeing it too.
It’s also the voice training you do when you set up assistant. Sometimes it recognizes my voice only and once in a while a phrase on the TV will set it off as it’s close to my inflections.
I actually had a Linux update do this once when it updated grub. Took a bit to fix but nothing was lost.
They did - also AT&T had an upright at Sears that was the very first to ship with a sound card. We used to record loud burps and people that stopped the screensaver would get a surprise.
Packard Bell most likely.
Atari 400 with a cassette tape drive and a 300 baud modem.
Ubuntu my dude. I started fiddling with it years ago and it’s my go to when I need a good desktop / gaming system. Any distro is gonna be a steep learning curve and a great way to go about it is to get a crapola system and start banging Linux on it. You’ll be frustrated and then search and find that there is a massive amount of community support for most distros. I use a Raspberry PI 4 running Ubuntu 64 for all my AV needs… Drives the projector and stereo and also serves as a retro gaming over the projector deal. We’re all fed up with windows.
Dammit - found Bazzite one week ago and love it - now its embroiled in a controversy.
