And yet, my Steam Controller has outlasted 2 Dual Shocks

Still using my Steam Controller every day, with two in reserve. By far my favorite gaming controller, simply because of those touchpads. I play a lot of turn-based strategy and doing it from the couch is sublime.

If Steam Controller 2 has touchpads and does something better than SC1, I’m probably in (dependent on pricing).

Yes, agreed, it definitely needs moderation. But I don’t think it needs singling out (again, not saying don’t moderate).

The bigger picture is a proliferation of online extremist speech in general. And yes, Google may have done well to moderate play store reviews (anecdotally), but they certainly haven’t done well with YouTube.

But I would suggest that focusing on any one online forum / store / outlet / etc. will naturally miss an important trend, and the reasons for that trend should be understood – while concurrently doing everything possible to limit this kind of hate online.

Again, you seem to have missed the point of the comment. I did not deny that Steam needs improvement. Things can be symptoms of larger problems, and calling that out is not whataboutism (to the contrary, the purpose of whataboutism is to suggest that there is no problem with item X – not that item X is a symptom of item Y).

I think you missed the first sentence of my comment. Games have been blamed above other media for years and years and years. That is not whataboutism.

I never suggested that Steam doesn’t need improvement. There is extremist content being posted. But it is definitely part of a larger (frankly, much more obvious) problem. Calling attention to a root cause is just not whataboutism.

Once again, a clueless boomer blames games.

How about YouTube? Why aren’t we going after Google?

What about Twitter? Musk’s platform is filled with extremist hate.

Nokia of now is not the Nokia of yesteryear. Their new phones are just cheap Android smartphones.

By the numbers: French or Arabic, as other commenters have mentioned.

But it really, really depends on where in the world you want to travel. If you’re interested in Asia, for example, neither French nor Spanish nor Arabic will help you much (save for some remaining French usage in Vietnam).

A better answer is: figure out where you want to go, then do the math on what to learn.

I still regularly use my original Steam Controller – for the trackpads. It allows me to do M+KB strategy gaming from the couch.

This lacks the killer feature, IMHO, given that I can use any of a wide variety of regular Bluetooth controllers for stuff with controller support.

Twitter is not a utility. We really need to stop treating techbro services like utilities. If we feel they actually are utilities, the government can step in and make that claim and the appropriate changes.

I gamed on Win2k until I couldn’t anymore because of requirements. It was excellent.

I eventually ended up on XP, and the first thing I did was shut off the Fisher Price skin. It still never ran quite as good as Win2k.

I’ve been on Pop for most of the time I’ve been gaming on Linux. Though I am currently switching to Arch for reasons, Pop has been great. Very easy, very stable across the board.

If you don’t have previous experience with Linux, there will be a learning curve, but depending on your hardware, it may be gentle or steeper. Likewise, your choice of distro may matter a lot, at least at first.

But you should take ProtonDB ratings as a good indicator that “might just be my hardware” is correct, at least for DRG. It also works out of the box for me on both my main rig (=currently running Pop) and the Steam Deck.

As of a couple months ago, the ray tracing also works in Linux when on AMD.

But to be clear, I don’t really play anything multiplayer.

I tried to avoid such bias by being clearer about what I play. I don’t think it’s biased to suggest single player games are more likely to work without issue.

Likewise, if you’re on nvidia, you’re more likely to have issues.

It is decidedly more work, particularly for those not familiar with Linux. But you’re right that there aren’t necessarily other issues – it all comes down to the particular titles one wants to play. ProtonDB is everyone’s friend.

For me personally, I love the simplicity of the all-AMD approach, and as I’m only a 1080p gamer, I really don’t need the nvidia horsepower anyway.
