It’s crazy how subsidized a Kindle is. I recently paid 60€ on sale for a brand-new Paperwhite. That has a superior display, and requires no extra work. It’s even worse if you look at voice-assistants, On sale, you can probably get 3-4 echo dots for the price of the materials of a single self-built one…

Probably not applicable for US people and their boxspring beds, but for anyone with mattresses (probably also for foam, but definitely for springs), flip them over every 6 months, this improves longevity.

Huh. We have really hard water here (17° dH = 3 mmol/l = 303 ppm) and I never heard of any recommending that or having issues with that. Maybe German valves are just built to work in such hard water, as that’s really common?

Eh, just do what most microwaves recommend for heating liquid: put a tea spoon in there. And if you are thinking “OMFG that will explode”, read about microwave and metal myths ;)

Huh? How would stovetop boiled water ever be still without bubbling? That’s required for superheating it.

My PI4 is still in use, but it’s only running Proxmox Backup Server to backup the main server ;)

Eh, especially the last few years they were more expensive. Now granted, mine was refurbished, but 40€ is still roughly half what I’d have had to pay for a PI at that time.

Didn’t they just hand NUCs off to ASUS?

I have a J4105 Celeron CPU, idle power draw is under 4W, and I run Jellyfin, Homeassistant, Paperless NGX and some other services on it. HA now being one of several services, it still runs far better than when it had my whole PI4 (also from an SSD) for itself.
