Dark Background Light Text has worked better for me. Less breakage and slow-down.
It’s been some time since I tried all of the available extensions though, so Dark Reader might have improved in these aspects since.

But the outgoing ad-related traffic (i.e. submission of DAP reports to aggregation services) is generated by Firefox itself, not some website. I don’t think adblockers have any influence on that.
adblockers do their job and prevent any PPA submissions.
Does it actually prevent all PPA submissions or just submissions for blocked ads, because they weren’t shown in the first place? If an ad managed to slip through, would the impression still be reported?

I’ve used XFCE for more than a decade now and this is my experience exactly. People usually recommend it for lower end systems, but I’ve yet to find anything more comfortable, even for my high-end desktop machine.
Every few years, when an all-new fancy Gnome/KDE version is released again, I give it a try, but I’m always back to XFCE within days.
