Video streaming is not cheap. Petabytes and petabytes of data transferred, stored, streaming, networked, etc., etc. YouTube is already barely profitable and only from pissing off their audience and streamers.
A comparison to Patreon isn’t fair at all because they have almost no infrastructure to speak of. What do they actually do? Host a web site with some forum software on it? Handle subscriptions and emails, with a light bit of payment handling? Really?
The only way they’ll “return to their roots” is if they aren’t publicly-traded.

Why? Rimworld is a great game on its own. The DLC are basically large and detailed mods on their own. If you don’t want to pay for the DLC, don’t do so. Most of the mods don’t need the DLC.

I’m no Kojima fanboy, as the guy is all over the place on story and structure. But, Konami made that decision in favor of pachinko machines, so that choice gets to haunt them and disgrace them as a company for the rest of its life.
A vast majority of the public didn’t do this or know how to do this.
It failed because the PS2 was dominating at the time, and Sega didn’t know how to launch a console, even if they had a gun pointed at their head.
