  • I’ve build entire databases/management tools out of Excel with following of administrative file completion, warning of due payment and KPIs. It was a pain to build but it kinda worked. Then I learn to build actual relational database and I went on rebuilding them on PostgreSQL… as a back, using Acess as front that would allow Excel-like usage and Excel export of the request response.
We can say what we want about Excel but it is working really well and people are already formed to use it or at least they are enough familiar with it so they are not nearly as frighten by the idea of learning Excel as they are to learn to read a single-table SELECT SQL statement.

  • Group effect. I have heard of the Fediverse before. It seemed to be an interesting concept but I did not see how it could fit into my life. Also were to find a website to registered, communities I’m interested in.
It wasn’t so long after I join Reddit that the API protest happened. Community I have already join started to discuss moving to Lemmy, instance name were mentioned, guides were written. I found no reason not to finally join a social media that was much closer to my free-culture value.
Now, I feel more in my place here than on Reddit. I’m much more active. I haven’t found everything there was on Reddit but I find plenty I could not find there that I like much more: Group culture to build from scratch, interoperability both btw instances and software, less corporate and marketing interference, human scale places of interaction.

  • Last time I moved. Went to the mass transit agency and got maps of every neighbourghood I need it go or pass through. I was lucky to find one with my neighbourghood as well as my office. I keep it this me always in my pocket.
It works offline, never bugs or slows down and the interface never have a glitch. And if I want to, I can still use the GPS that’s in my phone. It’s not like I lost the option bc I have a paper map.

    They are free though…

Since I’ve stop using gmail et reduce the need for a gmail account, Google don’t force connexion btw my account and the ones of people I share a computer with. I’m done seeing someone else youtube history bc someone forget to log out of its drive account. By gone the times where my contacts would become mixed up with my friend’s who checked its emails on my phone. My children profil are not considered my secondary accounts. I am not receiving notification of one Google product telling my I haven’t give full permission to another Google profil anymore. I don’t feel like I’ve take time to configurate my account but thé software disant change its behavior.

I’m no longer forced to use a software or a option I don’t want because this other software anable it automatically and that it is almost impossible to turn it off once you’ve start to use it.
