I’m curious about this as well. The keyboard flex was always brought up by early reviewers for the Framework 16, and I think Framework said they would make a more sturdy keyboard for it later, but I haven’t heard any updates about that.

It’s a screen cap from Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster, which was the movie for Monsterdon last Sunday. It’s significance is that 1) it is an impressively bad movie, and 2) this character held this grin on his face for like 15 seconds, which was funny.
This took me a second to get. Freaking great. :D
I’m kind of surprised that it’s only 51 GB. They’re all FLAC files ripped from CDs – I was expecting like 300 GB at least.
So apparently this 1TB SSD is going to last me a while. :P
For those who aren’t familiar with this game, it’s in the same genre as Mount & Blade, but with spaceships instead of horses. Or Sid Meier’s Pirates, but spaceships instead of pirate ships. Definitely one of those “I’ll just make one more quick cargo run…” type of games.
This update looks great. In additional to new strategy options through diplomacy, they’re also tweaking how ships handle.
Sometimes I hear about other people’s storage setups and I think, “that is overkill, no one really needs that.” According to this thread, I am quite mistaken about that. 😳
I have 2,057 songs, taking up a measly 51 GB, on a Funkwhale server. No movies or TV shows.
That should get a little larger soon. I have about 100 vinyl records that I want to make digital rips of.
There’s a used bookstore near me that has the oldest cash register I’ve ever seen. It has keys like a typewriter, and makes the most satisfying “ka-ching” sound when it opens. They always use it to add up your purchase and print a receipt, even when you’re paying with a credit card. But I always try to bring cash when I’m there so that the drawer gets used. (And also, y’know, screw credit card companies taking their cut.)
I know that’s not really “in widespread use” today, which is probably what the question meant, but that was the first thing that came to mind for me.
I have a soft spot for Gentoo, even though I haven’t used it in years. It was one of my first experiences with Linux, since it was installed in one of the computer labs in college. I just remember that the windows had this physics jiggle effect when you dragged them around. I was so surprised that Linux had a more “fun” aesthetic than Mac or Windows did.
Yeah, I think XFCE is my new favorite desktop environment, regardless of which distribution I use in the future.
Unfortunately, I don’t have great insight on those two, since I keep my laptop setup pretty simple.
I don’t really mess with the init system very much, so I can’t really weigh in on that. I’ve probably only run “sudo service start <thing>” a few times, so aside from the CLI being a little different from systemd, I haven’t noticed a difference. There would probably be another learning curve if you’re looking to actually create system services, but I never end up doing that on my laptop.
I haven’t had any issues with the packages, but that’s probably because I use the Flatpak if it’s available. So yes, the debian repo wouldn’t be current, but all of the daily things I use (browser, Thunderbird, Steam, text editor) get updates from the Flathub repo. The built-in MX package manager has a section for Flathub, so you don’t have to add anything for that.
I’ve been curious about antiX ever since I installed MX Linux on my laptop. MX Linux says it’s a “collaborative effort between antiX and MX” – it seems like a slightly heavier version of antiX, using XFCE instead of IceWM for the desktop, but otherwise leaning towards lower resource use.
The one thing keeping me from checking out antiX is that I’ve just been liking MX Linux so much, it stopped me from distro hopping, and I just don’t want to start again, haha.
I downvote if it looks like they are posting in bad faith. I’ll upvote some comments that I disagree with if the poster was trying to contribute to the conversation – I usually do that to offset the fact that they’ve been downvoted a bunch already.
Many of the communities I’m in are fairly small, so I upvote almost every comment that I read. I figure it lets someone know that someone else read what they wrote, and I think that’s what a lot of us are here for.
In addition to what you mentioned, another really annoying thing about Youtube’s search is that it sometimes gives totally different results from one minute to the next. You can search for something, then type those exact same words just a few seconds later, and you get a completely different list of videos. So if you ever do get a list of good results, you need to leave that browser tab alone and open a new one to keep those results “safe.”
Reddit is the first one that comes to mind for me, too. It was always easier to use a search engine like Google or DuckDuckGo and do thing I'm looking for site:reddit.com
instead of actually using Reddit’s search feature.
I use Funkwhale, which I have liked, but my use case is just streaming music through my laptop and listening with headphones. I don’t think there is a client available that will run on your Autonomic streamer.
Funkwhale does have a subsonic API, so you could use a subsonic client, but you mentioned that didn’t quite work before. (Is that what you mean by __sonic? I haven’t actually heard that term.)
Funkwhale is nice, but I think for most people it doesn’t (yet) offer any useful features beyond what Navidrome has, and probably even lacks a few things that Navidrome has. Funkwhale’s main appeal is that you can follow someone’s music library via the fediverse, although there hasn’t really been a lot of use for that so far. Version 2 is coming soon, though, and adds a whole bunch of new fediverse features.
I know enough Spanish to understand the lyrics now, but loved that song before I knew what it was saying.
867-5309 is definitely the first one that comes to mind for me.
But also, Carrot Top saying “Call 1 800 C A L L A T T, it’s free for you, and cheap for them” has been stuck in my head for a long time now.
Nah, I don’t think so. I mean, sure, arch is a little cringe, but it’s not that bad. Cool terminal, btw.
Thanks, that’s good to know. I heard the Framework 13 wad solid; I thought I was replying to a comment about the Framework 16, though. That must have been a different comment. I heard the 16 has a little flex.
