So it begins.
I hear you. The thing is, the communities I mod are quite niche (in relation to Lemmy’s population, that is) and apart from the corresponding subreddits I used to lurk on for years, I’m not really exposed to anything new that would prompt me to make new discussion posts and memes. I’ve watched all video essays there are about the games, I played through all of them repeatedly, new content is not on the horizon for any one of them. The best thing about them is the discussion in the community which has been missing ever since I created the communities in the first place.
Believe me: I’ve tried. But keeping three separate communities alive all on your own without community members ever feeling the need to contribute gets exhausting and doesn’t feel worthwhile. So making my own content, which I do when I have a cool idea, feels like more of a loss when the engagement is just as high, sometimes lower, as with content off reddit.
Lurkers will be lurking, I guess
Honestly guys, as much as I love MH to get the recognition in the West it’s always deserved, I feel MH fatigue. So many games coming out recently - some better, some worse. Just let the games simmer for a while before pushing out the next. Sure, a good mobile MH isn’t competing with any other MH per se (except Now) but still.
I’m just sad that OG MH probably won’t ever be returning. I miss the oldschool-style games.
I only use Lemmy. Never had accounts on any of the other social media platforms apart from Facebook more than a decade ago. I’ve been checking reddit, reluctantly, here and there recently to have something to post to my communities. Apart from that, it’s been Lemmy only since the exodus
Another reminder why you shouldn’t be using Amazon
Do check definitely! There are plenty guides by Modded Warfare on how to do it
September 2023ish if I’m not mistaken
PS4 is jailbreakable up until FW 11.00 as of recently. It’s a super easy process and is definitely worth it, for anyone interested
Welcome, friend
Yea good thing we didn’t follow through lol
Back in our Business 101 class in university, we were supposed to come up with a new business idea and pitch it. We came up with a self-tying tie. Guess we weren’t too far off lol
I’ll be honest, I was a little pissed they didn’t make summons available for Nameless Puppet, but I got it in the end after 2 more hours of trying yesterday. Phase 1 was super easy by the time I finished the fight, phase 2 was a super close call. Ended up winning with no heals left and a couple thermites for the remaining health lol
Harder than Isshin or Owl Father? I remember struggling for several days trying to kill Isshin but got it in the end. Sometimes it felt like Nameless Puppet was easier but also harder at the same time
Are you planning on getting the game for PC or a console? You could go for a used copy if it’s the latter
I personally pirated it onto my jailbroken PS4 to give it a go, but am considering a legit copy for PS5 now
Insane as in insanely cheap or expensive?
I hear that, dude. I remember struggling a lot with Isshin back on my first playthrough. Having played through the game multiple times now, charmless and with the bell too, the fight got kinda trivial, actually. Once you get the rhythm down again, it’s all just muscle memory. I hope to get there with Lies of P too
The point about preferring solo play against bosses is something I resonate with. Their movesets rarely translate well into 1v2 fights, so it feels like something’s off when I go in with a summon. It’s not something like Monster Hunter where the aggression of the monster shifts dynamically between hunters whereas many Soulslike bosses feel “locked in” on a single player
Also, that’s a good tip with using the summon to get the second phase quicker. Hadn’t thought of that before. The temptation to keep them alive for as long as possible to get to an easier win was always a factor prior lol
It’s a tough balance. I feel like FromSoft, and Neowiz for Lies of P I think, have found a good balance of all these systems in play, however. It shows that FS were less experienced when looking at Dark Souls 1 when comparing it to their newer games, but they’ve made the games progressively better.
Wholly agree. They’re tools to be used by the players, so it’s all an intended way to play the game
Feel that! I mostly stick to “traditional” gameplay personally because I like it that way the most, but it’s absolutely hilarious to see what people concoct when they’re creative. I’ve watched a couple cheese videos for Laxasia, for example, and outside of people like Ongbal who make any boss look like a clown, there were a lot that were using the Legion Arm or consumables a lot and to great effect. Pretty awesome, really
I totally get what you mean. I’ve been feeling the same towards new game releases. Moving to Lemmy has also helped with that because I’m mostly distanced from the discourse around new games and don’t get hyped as easily. Latest full-price release I got was Darkest Dungeon 2 and only because it’s physical and it was on sale for like 8€ off.
About MH, I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t been feeling their direction since World’s release. Sure, they’ve brought a lot of good on the table in terms of QoL, new moves, and its impact on the West cannot be denied a second. I’ve also played World quite a bit, around 120h maybe. But I feel like the fanbase has been split in half ever since World’s release and Capcom couldn’t mend it back together. It’s just too polished and lacks MH’s original charme that made it so enticing in the first place, I feel like (OG, playing since Freedom 2 on the PSP).
Iceborne was more of the same, but I get that many people enjoy it a lot and claim it’s the best MH has ever been. Rise was a good compromise between the new design philosophy and old values, but even Rise I haven’t been feeling too much, personally. Wilds just seems like World 2.0 but make it even bigger. Just isn’t for me. I’ve accepted it begrudgingly and am fine just playing other games.
