Yeah that would be the logical thing to do, lol. In my time experiencing and working in the software development world though, rarely are high-level decisions like that made based on how logical they are. Usually they’re made based on how much short-term cash flow they may generate.
Maybe there’s a middle ground, where instead of just letting a flood of people all download your game on day one, the publisher like pre-downloads it onto some sort of physical media, and then sell copies of that physical media. That way people could get into the game immediately when they receive their copy without having to wait on the same 6 hour download that a million other people are also waiting on, that download activity doesn’t interfere with the bandwidth of people trying to play the game, and the physical availability puts a sort of temporary artificial limit on how many people can play at once.
I totally get the irony of how Amazon’s own MMO struggled with server capacity issues, but that probably has way more to do with how the game was actually written/implemented, and less to do with Amazon’s scalability features.
IDK, I kind of agree with them. As a 90s kid, the originals didn’t really impress 12-year-old me. The acting was amateurish and cheesy, the “special effects” were cheesy, the story was extremely cliche by that point, the writing was 18-month aged Parmesan cheesy. To 12-year-old-me, the prequels had slightly better acting, better special effects, a much more compelling and interesting story, and the writing was still pretty cheesy. Maybe the dark, brooding main character really did it for my 12-year-old emo self, I dunno. But yeah, I don’t think it’s that crazy to prefer the prequels to the original trilogy. Like, looking back, neither trilogies really hold up, but the originals are very much propped up pretty much just because they were “revolutionary” nearly fifty years ago.

Dish detergents actually need some food schmutz to work properly. I rinse stuff if it’s particularly dirty or caked on, but only enough to get the big stuff off - I always leave a little schmutz. All my dishes come out perfectly clean.

So maybe I’m stupid but… Why? Why does he feel he needs an excuse beyond “taxes are cheaper in Texas”? Like, it’s understandable that a business owner wants to reduce costs, and reducing your taxes is one good way to do it. The blowback from saying something relatively mild like “I want to pay less taxes” is going to be way less than the blowback of saying “I want to leave California because trans people have too many rights here” right?

It’s a 400 foot tall screen that’s constantly on and in view, even at night, which plays ads like 90% of the time. Calling it “essentially a theatre” is a huge understatement.
I want to have granular control over where my files are stored. If I want them stored in the cloud, I want that to be a choice I consciously make, not something that’s defaulted at the operating system level.
So the hatred isn’t really directed at OneDrive, it’s directed at the fact that the operating system is making decisions for me, and they don’t line up with what I actually want my computer to do.

I can get an AMD 7800X3D, a b650 mobo, and 32Gb of DDR5 RAM for $500 right now in a bundle from my local Microcenter. I bought that exact bundle for like $425 a few months ago when I rebuilt my gaming PC because they happened to have some other sale running that stacked with the bundle price. Gimme a modern x64 processor and DDR5 RAM I know will feasibly last me like 10 years for a few extra bucks any day.
