Beside the obvious don’t reddit, it happens alot in the kbin (web app) and lemmy apps too.

I’ve taken to stopping to randomly copy my comments to the clipboard, or if it’s an extra long response, writing it in a different app and then copy pasting it.

I was gonna say… With Lemmy it’s more likely that it’ll just fail to post comment, but I’m willing to deal with that as the fediverse grows. Devs are working hard to smooth things out so I’m ok with a bit of jank here. Fuck reddit though.

It happens in kbin a lot, but IME if you go back your comment is invariably still there in the text box ready for you to post it.

I’ve had this happen on kbin quite a few times as well, but even if it redirects to a new page with an error message, it always saves the text in the input field. Haven’t lost a single letter once.

Does it work differently for you? At what point does it lose some of your content?

Maybe it’s the browser (on vivaldi on android) I’m using, and part user error. If it errors out, it still keeps the comment, but im also used to lemmy throwing an error and then still posting, so I hit back to double check, and if I return my comment is gone and I have to restart. The comment does turn into the post in front of my eyes, so maybe I should trust it.

I also have trouble when I add pictures, the add picture box doesn’t go away unless i click off the “popup,” if that’s what you want to call it, sometimes I’ll just hit the wrong button, cause everything is tiny, and it will jump to another page all together and when I get back, I have to start over.

Not to rub it in, but here’s my response using the memmy app. (To be fair, I’ve read the development version has been a little crashy of late, but the app store version has been stable af so far in my experience.)

Eh, Kbin regularly logs me out when I try to post and then I get chucked back to somewhere completely different.

Lemmy isn’t much better! I still get “you have to pick a language” error messages on the app and when using the browser I get server errors all the time.

The difference being that one is a system held together by volunteers, spit and floss, dreams and hopes, the other is a major website that pays people real world money to prevent shit from happening. (also, don’t reddit)

Well yes. There are people who receive money from reddit in exchange for services rendered, making reddit a legitimate company that can be held to higher standards. And then there are the mods (who, as we all know, are le ghey) who need to be protected from this fact of reality at all costs.
