this proxy does not seem to be working for me
but then again, the LibRedirect extension automatically sent me to this site, where I was able to read the article just fine:
https://scribe.rip/@doctorow/let-the-platforms-burn-6fb3e6c0d980Thanks. There has to be a bot for this on one of the instances.
or, even better, get Lemmy to integrate this functionality and let users opt-in.
if I recall correctly, I have seen some Lemmy instance that made Youtube videos embed through the usage of farside.link
actually, each Lemmy instance could double as a Farside instance, so that whole network doesn’t pressure (and rely on) developer’s instancehaving something like this would be very awesome
well, first thing would be to open a feature request in Lemmy’s issue tracker and start the debate about what is the best way to implement thisYes that would be great.
Thank you was great article and I hate paywalls.
agreed 100%
Unironically posted on Medium, oops.
Good read. I also liked his recent interview with Adam Conover, came at just the right time with this wave of everything getting shitty.
I’m also in the “let them burn” camp, hoping that’s gonna bring more people to open source platforms like lemmy/mastodon/etc.
This article was written like cancer. Just get to the fucking point already. Writers today are fucking garbage I swear.
This was written by Cory Doctorow, science fiction novelist, tech activist, and original coiner of the phrase “enshittification of the internet.” I’m guessing this one was a longer and wordier piece because it’s meant to be a commentary, not your typical article or editor’s note.
Lol attention span problems.
You’re not wrong. If I am reading an article I want it to be short and to the point. Writing it like it’s a book is ridiculous. I’m not interested in a novel ffs. I’m not looking to be dazzled with clever phraseology and metaphors for days. Just explain the shit and get on with it lol.

Well said
I work in marketing and only recently realised how closed the internet has become. I’ve always held that social media can come and go, people can use messenger and Twitter and Snapchat and insta all they like but email is a always a leveller that always works - then I found out about sending reputation. There’s a reason no one uses their own mail servers anymore, if you set up an email server on your own hardware then there’s a good chance that your emails won’t make it to the recipients behind spam filters. Basically, if you want to send emails now then you need to do it through an established service.
I use Proton Mail because Google’s autocomplete sentence feature creeped me out. Apparently Proton Mail isn’t good enough for VRChat. Boggled my mind.
