I guess you’re too young to remember Steam was shit in the initial years as well and people fucking hated it. You’re also blaming publishers for making an offer that developers voluntarily accepted, nobody forced them to do it, and most often it’s just temporary exclusivity anyway.

Also steam launched 20 years ago. It became ‘big’ in 2008. Every other platform has had more than 5 years to actually get going.
