One thing I don’t understand is the tagging. Every micro-blog in existence sees fit to tag every one of the other 12 participants in the thread automatically, which seems to only make things cluttered and really fucking annoying.
It is even more annoying on Lemmy clients that show every link in a comment at the bottom of the comment in easy to tap boxes. This is great for 1 or 2, but every mastodon post has everyone @ing everyone else.
I just downvote it all, block the users, and move on. That shit is annoying.
Yeah, being able to use Lemmy from Mastodon is great in theory but it’s terrible in practice. I’ve been using Mastodon since 2019 but wouldn’t waste my time trying to use Lemmy with that account. The experience just sucks for mastodon users and lemmy users alike. Fortunately, I’ve somehow managed to figure out how to juggle two separate accounts lol.
Don’t downvote, it’s not on purpose, just the limitations of their platform
They can’t see the downvotes in Mastodon anyway, if I’m not mistaken.
(Assuming you meant to say don’t downvote)
oh, yeah, that is what I meant, but it does lower it in ranking here, even if it’s a good comment. They’re not that common, don’t let them bother you
Yeah I don’t do it personally. But I also don’t begrudge people for downvoting if they find the formatting annoying. The reality is that Mastodon and Lemmy simply don’t play nice together atm, and that’s a user experience issue that needs to be resolved anyway.
Some of us are willing to put up with the UX annoyances to see what the Mastodon users have to contribute, while others simply don’t have the patience to deal with the hassle. The solution is to fix the integration so Mastdon users can post seamlessly without people even noticing they’re using a different platform.
Welcome and have fun.
u 2. :)
@fossilesque @TheInsane42 I forgot I can do this!
I don’t get the number of people bitching in the comments here.
Anything that potentially grows Mastodon and Lemmy is good.
When I first tried to check out the exodus this idea totally confused me and nearly made me drop the whole fediverse idea.
All this talk about using mastadon account on lemmy IS BULLSHIT. Sorry but - reading about mastadon account etc made it sound like lemmy is just another mastadon instance. Or another “perspective” on the same underlying data. It kind of works but it’s absolutely confusing and frustrating to try to do this. Just make a new lemmy account - which I was trying to avoid because I thought with federation I should be able to move freely between instances.
It would be nice to merge these kinds of “social media modes”. I believe reddit tried to do something similar with following users etc. But it’s not there yet and only hampers adoption to advertise this.
I know people will hate the idea, but these federates services need an SSO somehow.
Or a better “landing page” like an app that can manage multiple instances easily. Or merge multiple communities from different instances. But running in my browser. I’m sure this is in the works with the other lemmy clients or self hosting.
No pun intended, it’s more like federated identity (hope I’m not being pedantic)
But I’m with you. I’m the weirdo who likes their data together and uniformly vulnerable lol
haven’t tried it but couldn’t you technically login to a lemmy-app with your mastodon-account?
Maybe with an advanced lemmy app, but from the website it doesn’t work from my experience. Or is incredibly clumsy.
wiggle your trunk if you can read this…
I’m on Kbin, what should I wiggle?
your kaboose, of course
Instructions unclear. Trunk stuck in the keyboard.
@TropicalDingdong @fossilesque *wiggles*
Huh. I know Masto doesn’t do Markdown formatting, but I think that would’ve worked here. I guess escaping that does make more sense though
Can you make an inverse instructional on how to browse and post to Mastadon from Lemmy? Lol
Use hashtags in your post body, and it will Federate. :)See below
To all instances?
As far as I know. Let’s #test123 Give it a little and see. The more tags, the more federation.
Edit: Aha! I think it is still open? I thought this worked already as I saw a bot on Github and I follow some communities on Masto.
for posting. yes this is specific to the perchance community, but you can use it for any community
fuck you im having multiple fediverse accounts
Actually after noticing the general user profile here, I plan another exodus to some place else.
Nice post.
Nice tutorial
@fossilesque This is really neat! I really like being able to be on a completely different instance and commenting/favoriting from other federated instances.
