SimpleX is a highly secure IM app, as is WireMin. First of all, they are in commons with their privacy-focused characteristics as you can see in the pic.

But here are some WireMin’s unique features that I discovered so far:

  1. Available on desktop devices (Windows, MacOS, Linux). Since decentralized networks may cause high amounts of cellular data usage when connecting with nodes, using on desktop can be a better choice.
  2. A Discovery section to connect with all WireMin users.
  3. Support blog posting, sharing anonymously.
  4. Public Chat space with unlimited members
  5. Fast & Unlimited file transfer

All in all, if you are only looking for secure messaging tool, both SimpleX and WireMin can meet your need, but SimpleX is only a messaging tool, WireMin is a completely decentralized social network, as the described on their web page “A new era of social network – Freedom”, basically it is more fun and useful than SimpleX.

Personally, I think that apps like SimpleX and WireMin can replace Twitter, Facebook, and other big tech social media. The centralized platforms have overridden on users for too long, stealing and spying on their data. WireMin structures everything differently through decentralization, which means data ownership and privacy right is 100% on the user’s hand.

1 Con for SimpleX: It is not 100% decentralized.

1 Con for WireMin: Not open source yet, but it is on the Alchemy Dapp store. I have asked their dev team, and they responded as: “We are working on it.”

Is this a repost? I’ve seen this exact same post somewhere.

Anyway, SimpleX may not be decentralized OOTB, but can be made to be since their relays are self-hostable. It should be as simple as spinning up an instance and changing the url in app.
