Well since all multiplayer greed-fueled, whale funded games deserve to die, watching another one eating shit is a beautiful thing to see.

The first time I even heard of the game was a few days ago, when I saw an article posted here on Lemmy about it.

Maybe they could try something new instead of just rehashing the battle Royale/hero thing. It’s been fuckin’ years of the same shit. They copy this and that from the first big hit and just ignore any and all novelty that would make them actually stand out.

I know nothing about this game at all, but I will now judge it based entirely off the preview graphic on this post.

Hmmmm looks like an uninspired hero shooter with insufferable characters.

Anyone know how close I was?

How do I even test the game if it won’t work on any of my Linux machines? Anyway, after reading this, I am fully ready to forget it ever existed.

Can’t call it a crowded market when the vast majority of games under the “hero shooter” category are cheap at best and excessively greedy at worst. As a long time Overwatch and Apex Legends player I’ve been waiting years for a good replacement. I’m not saying Concord is that game to replace said hero shooters (And games like Valorant are in a category of their own.) I’m just saying that if there was an actual competitor to a fast paced game like Overwatch that isn’t as blatantly greedy, I would 100% play it.

The community is thirsty for a fresh take on the hero shooter and everyone I know that plays Overwatch and Apex Legends are in the same boat. It’s why games like Team Fortress 2 are having a resurgence. The only reason we play these games is because they are the best gameplay wise. At the same time, the bar is so low we’ll give any game that wants to put in the effort a try. I played the beta of Concord and enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s rough around the edges, don’t get me wrong. But that’s what betas are for. I paid $40 for Overwatch before it went free to play and they locked all cosmetics, old and new, behind a paywall. So if it’s decent I’ll pay $40 for Concord.

quite insane that nobody has managed to beat tf2 gameplay yet

helps that it has fanmade map scene and many become official maps frequently, which most modern studios dont support these days. Id guess valorant and overwatch would heavily benefit from community map designers creating something fresh for those games

It’s not that crazy. Modern game studios are monetization first and gameplay second, which isn’t going to work unless you luck into amazing gameplay.

I don’t think that other games haven’t beat TF2, it’s happen a couple times already.
The thing is all those games keep getting greedy and ruined by their own companies, then the servers get closed and the game dies forever.
TF2 is no longer being developed, at least its monetisation can’t get worse, so people play it as it is or not, Valve still hosts some servers but even if they don’t, the community would still play because they could get their own servers running, so it’ll be there for whoever wants to play even after their favorite gatcha closes along with fixes made by the community.

Another example would be L4D2, the community patch really shitted all over the game, they haven’t been able to fix it and Valve doesn’t care so there won’t be a rollback… But the servers can be run by the community along with Back2Vanilla which basically is a rollback of sorts, so people can keep playing and hosting their games even after other games close.

I had zero interest in Concord, because I’m not a fan of hero shooters usually, but I ended up putting 18 hours into the beta and really enjoying it. It reminded me of the FPS games I grew up playing.

Completely agree. I played the beta for about an hour and I liked it, though it is definitely lacking some polish right now.

A few more imaginative maps and ditching some of the more annoying character lines would go a long way to helping me fully “switch” from Overwatch. I also like that they put the lore right there for you, whereas OW makes you go hunt for it.

It’s impossible to predict which new multiplayer games will be successful and which ones won’t. It’s so risky for developers to even try making them nowadays. Even games that seem successful at first (like The Finals and XDefiant) struggle to maintain much interest over time.

Anyways, I like Overwatch but I’ve gotten bored with it over the past few years, so I’m potentially interested in Concord. I’ll keep an eye on it. (I was aware that there was a beta, but I thought it was pre-order only so I didn’t check it out)

It’s impossible to predict success, but it’s pretty easy to predict failure. Copycat games don’t work.

This “crowded market” meme for hero shooters gotta go.

The main reason this game flopped is its ugly character designs. People are willing to pay money for a good game. But when you purposely make the designs hilariously ugly, this is what you get.

We gotta move away from this trend.

Oh boy, did Sony release a new banger that’s the same game repackaged for the thousandth time?!

I am so excited, I definitely don’t have Sony blocked on steam along with all their in-house production companies. Nuh-uh, I would never block all these awesome companies for altering deals weeks post-sale.

No siree, I would never navigate to their steam pages and gleefully click the block producer button ever. Not even once, as a joke.

I fully blame advertising on this one, I have only heard of the game once or twice, and all of those were in comments complaining about the state of Sony which is never a good thing for a game. I have never seen any promotionals for this game and I’ve never seen any type of outline of what this game even is being as they are mentioning it’s normally a free to play I’m assuming it’s some sort of MMO or team-based game like Overwatch, I didn’t even know it was doing open Beta over the weekend till now

edit: reread the article, I just didn’t notice it the first time yeah it seems it’s your typical game like OverWatch
