Took me a while but I learned one of my managers is highly likely to shoot down any idea that isn’t his. So during planning sessions I started describing partial ideas and pretending I didn’t know how to solve the last leg of the problem so he could jump in and say, “Oh, what if we did…” Still kind of pisses me off I have to feign ignorance but since I started doing that things have gone way smoother.

Tried the native installer again (was using Flatpak up until now). No freezing and the encoders are found!

Only problem now is getting the resolution to change based on my client. Any other screen is going to be much smaller than my desktop widescreen so changing resolution is pretty important. The Sunshine suggestion didn’t work (script to run nvidia-settings command).

I’ll try that again but the first time I tried that I had to rollback because the desktop would freeze immediately after login.

On one hand that’s a good thing.

Agreed. Math, for the most part, is very rule oriented and problems only have one answer and often one strategy to get to the answer. If you work on many different problems (in the same subject) you should start to get used to the rules.

Overall I would say a strong math foundation is important to CS but CS isn’t just about coding. You can absolutely get a coding job without strong math skills or even without a degree, it’s just a bit harder to get started. If the discipline still exists you might consider a Business Information Systems degree (we used to call it CS lite). Depending on the position a company might equally consider BIS and CS majors.

Expanding rural broadband access is a necessity if we want to scrape back the country from the fascists.
