If you post I’d personally be glad if you’d not spam your post to all remotely probable communities. It will end up like maybe 50 times in everyone’s “new” feed and some would consider this as post spamming.

Usually those numbers fall back into the provider’s pool after a time of not regular usage and get sold again, at least here in Europe.

Had a colleague who did this regularly, till I put his new pw on a postit, and that in his coat pocket. Worked as long as the weather stayed same… It escalated away, until he let his gf call me for his password, because he did not dare to anymore. We finally gave up and set his pw fixed to “123456”. He was really good at the job, only not with his pw.

It was a small shop, they only had a corner with “electronic” things, some computer stuff. They probably only odered a copy or two, not believing it would sell. But it did. Remember, this must have been the 1980ies, computers were somewhat rare and exotic back then. I think I was one of two in my class who owned one.

I remember reading about Elite in a (paper) magazine, and I WANTED IT. Counted my pocket money. Drove my bike to a mainly photo related retailer (only one reachable for me, they also did PC games as a side job), and there it was, box art in the window! Went in, told em I wanted that, and - big disappointment - they had to order it. THEY HAD A DISPLAY OF THE BOX ART, BUT NO COPY OF THE REAL THING! I had to pay upfront, cash, and then had to ride the bike there, again, two times, within a fornight, cos there was no notification of arrival then. The joy, tension, reading through the manual, while it was installing… unbeatable. Spent most of my afternoons in game, doing my “homework”.

Thats probably the cause the price of these floppies was so high back then, they needed replacements ;-) /s

I also noticed slow dl speeds some weeks ago, and had to restart the download. Nearly did not install it out of growing frustration. But it worked out in the end.

Thank you for that information. It’s a company machine, but if I ever get annoyed enough I’ll try it out. I just f*s my brain that they’re bold enough to change the UI for worse.

One could add “Or on the next version/release of Windows”, cos they’re breaking that “knowledge” with each new (forced) change on the UI. Yes, I want to right-click on a file and choose “rename” in a context menu, not choose one of a ton of icons, I want excel to open a new instance with a new file, and so on. It kills productivity for me to be forced on these changes.
