I am also @Quill7513@slrpnk.net, but this is my primary and more active account. The slrpnk.net account is for ecology and lemmy.world stuff

Christ. most of them.
George Washington got to be in charge of a country that enshrined chattel slavery in its constitution for 20 years. Thomas Jefferson provided military aid to France’s efforts to quash a slave revolt in Haiti. Andrew Jackson personally orchestrated a genocide against the Cherokee, Creek, and Choctaw (all of whom were aligned with american interests). Zachary Taylor put a bounty on bison, in an effort to starve the native Americans of the great plains. Abraham Lincoln allowed his western military expeditions to do basically whatever to the native Americans. Andrew Johnson started the process of letting confederate leadership be who directed reconstruction rather than being punished for it.
And here we reach Ulysses S Grant. one of America’s favorite punching bag presidents because he got scammed rather frequently, but when you dig into why he was prone to getting scammed, it’s because he thought it was America’s duty to use its economic power to help the lowest people in society. it’s hard to be mad at a guy who was trying so hard to help people that sometimes he let someone con him into thinking they deserved help.
i can keep going on how a ton of our historical presidents have sucked. i’m still personally willing to say the top 3 are Andrew Jackson, Ronald Reagan, and Donald trump
Adam Smith: you gotta bust up monopolies because competition drive’s innovation
the rich: you heard the man! all the wealth has to be consolidated with us! greed is good!
i hope someone working on KDE sees this and says “well this is unacceptable. we have to figure out why this is causing so much frame lag” and the ability to enhugen your cursor remains forever.
new is a different concept from first api stable release. it’s been in development since 2002. 0.21 was the most recent release, and the software has been pretty much usable since 2010 at least. but this 1.0 release is a big deal because it basically means any features you currently know and like can be expected to be there for forever. it’s more of a promise than a time-based release measure
the google corporate overlords are just straight up evil
it was for a time a distro i was really big on on account of how small it could be on live media. absolutely fantastic for very old pcs and netbooks, too
gotacha. i’ve only ever heard them called ternaries. maybe i’m old. maybe i’m too young. definitely one of the two
been programming since 2008. the fuck is an elvis operator?
Yes. Also plus eye candy with hyprland. Sway is the i3 experience on Wayland. The official roadmap for i3 is to fall into obscurity as Xorg goes away. They explicitly call out that other things exist for Wayland and adjusting i3 would distract resources from those projects
I eventually gave up and decided to see if they were being hostile to my network and privacy settings. Lo and behold, I was able to log in when I adjusted the strictness of my VPN. Fortunately the service I was trying to exchange currency for was a better VPN with more security and privacy, so I was willing to take the L on that one interactions
Just looked into this drama because I had no idea what the fuck was going on, and MAJOR YIKES
I spent a huge amount of time last night clicking on motorcycles because I absolutely could not convince PayPal or Google I was a legitimate human who wanted to exchange currency for goods and services
You also run into different sets of tools that define an IDE. And especially with language server protocols giving almost any text editor access to the only things that were ever strictly the domain of IDEs, I think it’s safe to say we live in a golden age of being able to write things with as much or as little assistance as you want
Were having radically different experiences. Firefox consumes way less power than chrome on all my machines
The problem is other distros exist that do everything Ubuntu does right without all the things Ubuntu does wrong
We started there of course. The subtlety has far more to do with needing to get clever than with us being clever. Eventually it got to the point where I had to write a python script to reinstall all our .corn antics back on every school machine because the school took to resetting all accessibility dictionaries every night
Especially since when was the last time you got a phone that impressed you? Like phones haven’t been getting better they’ve been getting more gimmicky
Ah the olden days of using windows accessibility features to replace “.com” with “.corn”
is this how contacts get sucked in according to our former national security director?
