I personally switched to Ente.io for shared photo albums. Works great. Encrypted, cheap and you don’t have to make an account as a guest user. I highly recommend that you give it a try. Also if you want to (opt-in). It got on device AI/ML for face and object recognition.

You don’t have to self host it. It works like TeamViewer. You install it on both the client and host and with the ID and Password you can then access your remote client. But if you want more control/privacy you can host your own relay server.

The same problem is in politics in Germany. They vote only for the big politicians who have already a big group of supporters and so a high chance to win. Like „ I don’t vote for xyz because they have only 0.5% of voters in Germany and can’t change anything by that“ . With this attitude they also grow very slowly.
