No. Because any advanced civilisation capable of sending a colony ship across light-years to another planet is already so far outside of our current technological ability that it matters precious little.

We would be easy to colonise either way. Doubly so if they have some form of FTL technology to make that trip in reasonable time.

But there’s also an argument that anyone who can do so would have a much easier time not dealing with all of that and just colonising an uninhabited planet, or outright using materials to make a thing to colonise instead.

Depending on how they do it, not having to deal with hydrogen infrastructure might be nice, if they keep along with the plan to use refillable cartridges. Hydrogen is a bit more fiddly.

Every time I look up a Cloudflare-gated site on my iPad, I usually have to jump through a few captchas before it will let me in, if it doesn’t decide to be a grump and decide to put you in a sisyphean cycle of captchas, constantly refreshing without end.

Not really. Why censor more than you have to? That takes time and effort, and it’s almost certainly easier to do it using something else. The law isn’t that particular, as long as you follow it.

I think this all happens mostly due to the stress trans people are inadvertently causing their parents. When your kid comes out of the closet, this will happen to a parent regardless of how liberal-minded they are. Even if you have no problem with the concept, your kid being trans brings about new kinds of threat scenarios you never had to think about before. If you’re a sensible, smart and handsome person like I truly fucking am, you can process it in a few years and come out as not being a 100% asshole towards the issue.

I feel like it’s more the opposite problem. For the parents, trans people are a vague boogeyman. They’ve never meant a trans person personally, and they’re constantly told that trans people are just waiting to jump them in the bathroom, or at sports, or all sorts of other things, so they’ve never had to contend with someone they know being trans.

If it was simply stress or threat to the kid, it wouldn’t really explain the reaction to disowning them, since most of those aren’t about the treatment that their kids would receive for being trans.
