  • The trend is that in general, living conditions for humans have gotten significantly better over time. Look how much better people in medieval times had over cavemen. Look at how much better people in modern times have over medieval times. In general, medicine and technology will continue to advance, further increasing living standards.

People like to turn a blind eye to technological progress and assume just because there are ebbs and flows in society and politics that it means that humanity is going down the toilet. The general trend has never been that way. We have ups and downs, but lives are generally continued to improve over time. I can’t imagine that changing any time soon. Sometimes steps backwards are made, yes, but be thankful we aren’t living in caveman times where you would have died during childbirth, from accidentally cutting your leg on a rock, from starvation, from getting eaten by a mountain lion, etc.

  • So generally I use turn signals correctly. But there are a few times I don’t for particular reasons.

If I am sitting at the rightmost lane at a busy intersection and intend to turn right, I honestly tend to not turn on my right turn signal. The ambiguity of whether or not I’m turning or going straight helps keep assholes behind me from honking at me. I’ve found that an unfortunately large amount of people get impatient when someone in front of them is turning right on red onto a busy road. They honk and act like assholes because they want you to dangerously jump into traffic and not wait for a clearing so they can go sooner.

I know I could turn on my turn signal and just let an an asshole lay on their horn, but honestly I really truly prefer to avoid that.

  • What do you mean you’ve heard “could of”? Of course you would have heard that. That’s literally how it’s pronounced. It’s just not spelled out that way, as the above person noted. People end up erroneously writing it like that because that’s how you say it out loud.

Do you pronounce “could’ve” in a way that doesn’t sound like “could of”??? Curious to know what that would sound like.

  • Yes. The Flip 5 has a different cover screen than the 3. It’s significantly larger. Just look up a a photo comparison of how significantly different they are. Yes, you can run literally any app or APK file from the cover screen on the Flip 5. The ones I use most are Discord, Spotify, YouTube, Google Messages, Voyager, my notes app, and Red Reader (Reddit).

Sometimes they can be a bit buggy or don’t function very well (esp games), so I don’t like using certain apps on the cover screen.

The only caveat is you need to install a free app by Samsung called Good Lock from the Galaxy Store first. Evidently it is not available in certain regions. In these regions, then yes, the cover screen functionality is locked down to only a few approved apps.

  • I have the Flip 5 and I am able to run full apps on the cover screen, not just Samsung approved ones

The annoying thing is that this feature is just not enabled by default. You have to download an extra (free) app from Samsung that unlocks the full app support on the cover screen. It’s called Good Lock and it’s in Samsung’s Galaxy Store instead of the Play Store.

Not sure why they do this…I guess because they don’t want the average user to think that the cover screen will feel buggy if they try to run a non optimized app on it.

  • The crease is noticeable in bright ambient lighting conditions like outdoors in very bright sunlight or if glare from lights hits it at certain angles. For example, imagine you have a lamp and you take the shade off of the lamp. If you stand so that the lamp is behind you while you are browsing the phone, it will glare off of any normal phone screen. On folding phones, the glaring will make the crease visible.

In addition to bright lighting conditions, it’s most noticeable when not viewing the phone from head on, like you said. Viewing the phone head on seems to minimize the opportunity for light to bounce at an angle and so the crease is often not noticeable.

If you use the phone normally (viewing head on, as in browsing content, writing a text, etc) and in normal indoor lighting conditions, the crease is often totally invisible to the user.

If you work outdoors all day in bright sunlight, tbh you are going to notice it. But then I find most phone screens are hard to use in bright sunlight anyway because they aren’t bright enough.

Tl;Dr - There are many cases where you notice it, but there are many more cases where you don’t. It just sort of blends into the background after you use it for a few days anyway.

  • Lot of comments omin this thread! So this will prob get buried but here goes!

A couple years ago my phone suddenly died of old age. I had seen a YouTuber who had a folding phone (unrelated to the topic of the video) which I thought was wild looking. I found out that it was called a Z Flip 4 and bought it on a whim…hoping to have a phone that finally fit in my pocket. I loved the thing. It’s gimmicky, sure, but fun. And I loved how a modern phone could finally fit in women’s pockets.

I had it just under a year before I had a crazy deal to upgrade to the Z Flip 5. I have had this one around a year now and I have been really enjoying it. It was such a massive improvement over the 4 due to the huge cover screen when folded as opposed to just having a tiny screen only useful for briefly checking notifications. I’m not upgrading this year though. Planning to stick with the 5 for a bit I think!

It’s silly…but it’s fun to see some people’s reactions when I pull out my phone in public.

Battery life is not the best in the market, but still perfectly serviceable imo. The Z Flip 6 is being released soon with a bigger battery.

When I first got my Flip 4, I didn’t know that Motorola also had a folding phone model in this form factor. But I was jealous of their bright colors when I found out lol.

I would like to see more phone manufacturers try for models in this form factor. Personally, models that unfold out to become tablet sized are just far too chunky and expensive for me. I don’t really have a need for such a large device in my pocket all the time. Not sure why so many manufacturers are only into the phone+tablet folding phone model (ex: Google). It’s incredibly expensive and they are missing out on some of the market by limiting themselves imo.

  • For some people, it’s not really an solvable issue and no amount of talking about it will make them like you. Some people are just assholes for various reasons, and it’s best to just minimally interact with them as opposed to trying to understand them. Courage doesn’t necessarily play a factor. Idk, just my 2 cents.

Obviously not the case for everyone, but I’ve been there before in the trying to reach an understanding route, and it doesn’t necessarily work. Some people are just a bit unhinged and it’s best to minimally interact.
