8 days agoYeah, that works, but it means the services cannot be managed by systemctl as root anymore. Or am I missing something?

How do you do that? Please link a description. This has been a major stumbling block for me
While that is true, that is not how I would run services normally with SystemD. Those would be defined globally, but run as a user.
Definitiv then in the user home, means that I dint see them with
systemctlwhich is very annoying.
Might it be, that you have also learned a bit here and there?
I like this, but even though pod man runs perfect rootless, quadlets can only run as root for now :-(
That resolves to 0.0.0.0 - rarely useful
3·13 days agoPalestinian organisations tried to use Pagers, to get a Communication Network that does not expose the location of receivers.
It did not go well for them. Even so, receiving should not expose the location of the user.
I feel the Same about NixOS. Its 120.000 Package are really helpfull, and the fact you can install it on and Linux distro and macOS rounds it out.

I really like the idea to Fund a global election. Of a global government to act on global problems. Politics is not a zero sum game.
3·8 months agoFrom macOS: that the basics in UI are so much more consistent and just work. For example shortcuts across apps. This makes me insanely productive.
You know, protecting against Powerloss was the major feature of filesystems in a time gone by…
I like git, most used version control system around these days. The way in which commits are hashed is very much a blockchain.
I also like public timestamp services, which are also often implemented as a blockchain
Crickets, tumbleweeds…. Sounds about right.
Out of all the ways that I have tried in the past, to reproduce not just the initial state, but also the ongoing changes of a disto (ansible, saltstack, chef, bunch of Shell scripts) — nix is by far the shortest. With all of these technologies I would never have dreamed to do this for a single Maschine. But now it’s not only possible, but actually gasp enjoyable!
Mind you, if that is not the problem you want to solve, maybe install just the nix package manager in addition to your distribution, and learn to enjoy it without having to run your whole distribution this way.
