For a while now I’ve wanted to start a project of shit politicians say. Video as much as possible. Every shitty immoral reprehensible thing that they come out and say and do logged into a searchable archive. Make it super easy for regular people to stitch together anti-political ads using the politicians own words with context.

I suspect their financial position has changed. Perhaps Google’s being found as a monopoly has made them decide not to help fund Mozilla’s efforts as substantially.

My friend bought an old BMW and was taking it to the dealer for maintenance.

Every oil change there was some overpriced small thing wrong that he had to pay for and then adding insult injury at the end they would charge him serious amounts of money for fluid top off. The amount they charged him for windshield washer fluid was enough to buy about five containers of windshield washer fluid. So tired of these antics he went out and he filled the windshield washer fluid 100% to the top there was no air in the jug whatsoever. He took it in for an oil change, they charged him for a windshield washer top off. He demanded the service manager and said that he had topped it off to the very top and there’s no way they added even a teaspoon of windshield washer fluid to it. The service manager refused to take the windshield washer fill off the bill and said they’d give him a credit for the next time he needed windshield washer fluid.

He never went back.

I’d vote for anytype or obsidian

Anytype has a learning curve, But it has built-in encryption and IPFS syncing provided by the company. The templating system is really slick and the relational aspect is pretty solid.

Obsidian + syncthing fork is a really solid contender. It’s much easier to work with out of the box but the features are a little more generic.

Neither of these are really self-hosted, so much as they are contained in their own ecosystem. You get some measure of higher availability that you have to really work for if you’re really self-hosting a product.

How about the other way around, I had this guy come in, he had been out of the business for a while and decided to go and be a mechanic for a few years. One winter in particular he decided that he was kind of tired of doing the mechanic stuff and wanted to come back.

I interviewed him on a phone screen. His knowledge was appropriately dated but he was not bad. I figure he’d be able to come in and get up to speed pretty quickly.

My company does kind of a nightmare scenario where they interview you all day long and you literally meet with everyone in groups.

First thing in the morning first group came through said he was great.

Second group came through asked him some questions and he was a little bit more cagey but still not bad.

The third group was the lunch group, They took him out to lunch and he threw out a bunch of racist stories and while people watching, made fun of people as they came into the restaurant for their ethnicity or their weight, or what car they drive or whatever else they could find.

The lunch crew came back and did a hand off but no one raised the flags right away so we went into the first after lunch crew. A couple of people from the lunch crew pulled me aside while he was in his next set of meetings and said they were extremely uncomfortable being around him and recounted the stories.

I had to bust up the interview and send him on his way. The person that was uncomfortable with what he said is one of the most IDGAF people I’ve ever met.

Years earlier we had a developer come in with a fantastic resume. They brought him in first thing he was rude, and we’re not talking autistic doesn’t know what he’s doing rude he was clearly making a lot of generalizations about people and being nasty about the questions. Skill wise he was absolutely fantastic and he would have been fabulous to be a lead in front of a complicated project, But he was impossible to be around. Toward the end of the Early interview they told him that they had all they needed. He asked him if it was because of his attitude and they said that it was a team job and they needed somebody that was capable of working with a team. He said they could just put him in a one-man team and have him architect things or do other work by himself. There was simply no chance they were going to hire him. You don’t willingly bring that much toxicity in the workplace if you can help it.

My home is more of a democracy than a dictatorship. I could of course forbid them from playing, impose whatever sanctions, But they have fun doing it and they have a bunch of real life friends that join them.

I wish Roblox would stop having their fight with Linux and I just convert my kids over.

They absolutely don’t need Windows for anything but Roblox at the moment.

Somebody up at Sony had a Jira ticket to update all the eulas and it listed the URLs for each one, instead of going to the URLs and putting the content in each one of the eulas they just slaped the URLs in.

When taking the geometric mean of 73 benchmarks run for this comparison, upgrading from the Ryzen 9 7950X to 9950X on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS yielded a 14% generational improvement with this set of cross-platform applications/benchmarks while under Windows 11 was a 10% generational improvement. The raw performance of Ubuntu Linux on the AMD Ryzen processors also was greater overall to the extent of the Ryzen 9 7950X to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS nearly matching the Ryzen 9 9950X on Microsoft Windows 11.

I think the big problem I have with tor is that there’s no way to know how compromised the network is. From a three letter agency budget, setting up 30,000 nodes wouldn’t be a big deal, you just have them doing other things.

Of course, I’m not really doing anything that would draw the ire of a three-letter agency, so even tor is overkill.

I was also never really big on people running bad s*** through my node. I’ve always felt better using a paid proxy then at least claims not to log, Even if there’s a half decent chance that people are watching their ingress and egress at the ISP level.
