can’t speak for others, but i’m mostly the quiet/introverted/lurker type…
sometimes i just feel like i have nothing valuable to add to the conversation
i will make an active effort to engage more tho

thanks. i have a laptop i deliberately installed debian on… but that’s about it lol
i’ll take you up on the support suggestion too… i recently had to figure out why a unix server went down at work. luckily we had a set of scripts and commands archived from the manager that supported it before he left. all i did was just run them with a little bit of logic and context applied, but it forced me to poke around a bit and seeing what each command did. i was careful enough not to break anything but i found it quite interesting
that being said… what’s a good website i can at least go to and learn some linux basics and progress to more advanced stuff? i’d at least want to check that out before i start bugging people…
i had the opportunity to take a class back in college but 18 yr old me couldn’t handle a 7am class and know-it-alls in the back always interrupting the teacher and trying to show off in class…
i can’t remember the name of the movie, but there were 2 aliens who looked like humans and they were causing some sort of trouble… they had the ability to shapeshfit into other humans
i remember there’s a scene where a protagonist steps into an elevator and there’s some young man listening to his walkman. after some time, the young dude starts making these awkward noises because he’s jamming out on his headphones to the music… the protagonist is totally paranoid as he’s not sure if young dude’s really a human being or an alien, so the elevator finally reaches their floor and they try to escape only to get grabbed by the young man and he reveals himself to be the alien…
so the camera pans to the aliens face looking all menacing and one of the MST3K crew says “you didn’t think i could get jiggy with it!?” 🤣
it’s been years so if anyone knows the ep i’m talking about, i’d be extremely grateful so i can watch it again.
haha yeah. i just assumed they were kidding, but if not… yikes!
for me, the section that changes the most goes last…
in a whole year, the YYYY never changes, the MM changes only 12 times… i never implementing the day… there’s only so many possibilities i could have had for saved files in June. i just go straight to description
I like Keepass - Password manager housed in an encrypted database. (dont’ lose your master password)
lmao i loved prison break… so many people i come across hated it
my sentiments exactly…
to be honest, i felt like that general view of culture fueled its way into the real world. i have people at work thinking the IT department is just some bastion of antisocial hermits that you can just talk to anyhow, or know automatically what exact issue you have when you say “my computer is not working”.
i’ve handled some level of helpdesk support over the past 20 years…
till this day, i discover something new that i’ve never come across before. granted, some of it has to do with the newer versions of windows and mobile devices but just whenever i figure i’ve seen it all, something new comes up almost every day
now that i think about it, this would be handy for remote support techs walking a user on-site on what to do…
“you see the 3rd switch from the top that has the cisco logo? i’ll need you to power cycle it”
2 hours later
“oh i found it”
vs.
“you see the girl with the blue hair? unplug the box her hair’s connected to”
