Crowdstrike bricked networking on our linuxes for quite a few versions.
Somewhat ironically, autopilot for airplanes is more less attitude/speed holding for most history. More modern systems can now autoland or follow a preprogrammed route (the flight plan plugged into the FMS), but even then changes like TCAS advisories are usually left up to the pilots to handle. Autopilots are also expected to give control to the pilots in any kind of unexpected situation.
So in a way tesla’s naming here isn’t so off, it’s just the generic understanding of the term “autopilot” that is off somewhat. That said, their system is also not doing much more than most other level 2 ADAS systems offer.
On the other hand, Elon loves going off about Full Self Driving mode a lot, and that’s absolutely bullshit.
I have an S23, it’s definitely not every month. Last update package is currently dated 1st of may.
That is a difficult topic. Google did take steps to mitigate issues there. Android got Hardware Abstraction Layer to prevent blobs from blocking updates ; also, a lot of updates were moved from AOSP to the Play Service, so Google can more easily roll them out. (And to make AOSP and 3rd party roms less of a threat, eh.)
Edit : that said, most android phones have woefully short support period.
I don’t know. According to this : https://www.statista.com/statistics/921152/mobile-android-version-share-worldwide/ android version 13 and 14 account for almost half the device versions, and those usually have forced auto update and also recent enough to be getting updates in theory…
Great news, especially for the 8% of Android users who actually receive updates.
Patlabor movies 1&2: extremely realistic mecha and pretty deep story, though they are really slow and don’t have the explosive pace most action animes bring. I love them still. There’s also a very good abridged version of Patlabor 1 on YouTube, it’s hard to remember the actual movie after watching it.
Ghost in the Shell movie, GITS Stand Alone Complex and Second Gig are also extremely good. In a way they are one of the definite sources of modern cyberpunk - though hardly the first, the inspiration they brought can be only compared to Star Trek imo. There have been GitS stuff since, but they never managed to recapture the same heights.
And if you like more modern stuff, 86 is one of my favorite shows of late. The base story isn’t bad - it clearly has a lot of thought put into it, but it feels somewhat bland in parts - but the way they brought it to anime was just sheff’s kiss. It’s ridiculously well directed. That said, you need to have a certain appreciation to bleaknees and some (melo)drama to really enjoy it.
Squire’s ads are better than the actual vids of some other YTers…
Sure, PFAS were also considered a nonsignificant issue until they weren’t, only it’s too late to unfuck it now. Well, no harm in generating more potential ticking time bombs I guess.
Ah yes, the usual method of waiting until the issue becomes confirmed and also way too severe to fix instead of acting on precaution and harming profits of private companies. What could go wrong?
Going publicly traded fucks every company up with nextquarter-itis.
The white people didn’t disappear alltogether, but a lot of them did emigrate. Jewish people are kind of unique in the way that they face hostility everywhere outside Israel, so that’s not really an option for them.
The experience, perhaps.
My country has become a practical dictatorship, and I’ve realised that people living here are not only ok with that but are happy that decisions are made for them. I miss the days I believed in people.

Why the hell would my fridge be connected tonthe water main in the first place?
If I know they are there then I either supervise visitors or trust them to not rummage/take my stuff. If that is your issue then keep your postit in a drawer; most people don’t keep their yubikeys in a securely bolted safe either.
If someone has access to your sticky note they’re already in your house, and that’s a bigger issue IMO… even from an itsec perspective, once the attacker has physical access to guarantee safety is difficult.
But seriously, there’s a guy in your house.
Crowdstrike managed to fuck up Linux through eBPF just as well.

If you load hacky shit into the kernel it can always find a way to make a nasty surprise. eBPF is a little bit better fence, not some miracle that automatically fixes shitty code.
