Well, dropping ‘dumb bombs’ is actually much cheaper than firing expensive guided missiles designed for missile interception. Even though the US has a bunch of money, at some point a waste of dollars is too much even for them.

Exactly, all my favourite games, and ones with a small but dedicated modding community, are how they are largely because of player creations.

Project Zomboid, Barotrauma, Kerbal Space Program, they are all relatively inexpensive, amazing heartfelt games made by small studios (RIP ksp2)

HOTAS for flight simulators. I had a few cheap ones, but getting a quality one is simply worth the extra 50-100$.
