There’s a lot of artists selling stuff on Mastodon but I don’t think you can have a job as a mastodon influencer
What’s good for freedom is bad for ease of use.
I do it too. I guess I trust cloudflare more than the public Internet but when I have more money I’ll do it right
So for Ubuntu, it’s popular enough to have communities on irc, discord, matrix, etc.
I wanted to be in a Linux community in 2006 and discovered irc, and even then it was retro.
As the years have gone by I’ve tried the other sites, but imo text only has a vibe that you only get through that limitation. I get that images are a popular feature, but I prefer irc.
Matrix lost me with how awful the key crap was and element is really unpleasant to use.
It helped me out
Don’t teach them this one unless you’re visiting a relative you don’t like
I don’t get the Simpsons one
How do you make a tissue dance?
Put a little boogie in it
Where my snake bitees at?
Was biking/exploring in the woods and got bit on the ankle by what I later figured out was a copperhead. Couldn’t bike to the ER so I had to bike to the edge of the woods and meet the ambalance there.
Copperhead venom digests/destroys tissue, but the antivenom can kill you since it’s made from horse blood and you could be addicted, so they gave me 10 bags over the course of the night and stuck me in the ICU just in case. The person in the room next to me ended up dying from whatever they were there for. At this point my foot had swelled up like an exam glove you blew into to make a balloon. But it started going down after the 5th bag of antivenin. Which felt like ice in my veins.
The next morning basically I was good to go, but it was expensive. I was a teenager but my mom had to fight the insurance company to get them to pay which was the real horror story of all this.
We have had stories like this one where marketers claim to be able to actively listen:
https://www.404media.co/cmg-cox-media-actually-listening-to-phones-smartspeakers-for-ads-marketing/
Whether you believe them or not is important. But they are secretly claiming to have this capability.
In that case why would it be a bad thing to change the name to something else?
If there’s no requirement, maybe openSUSE will just formally politely refuse to change names
Yeah kind of idiotic that the video kept saying that captchas are useless – they’re still preventing basic bots from filling forms. If you took them away, fraudsters wouldn’t have to pay humans to solve them or use fancy bots any more, so bot traffic would increase
Pit of despair, hype cycle, etc
I’m tired of this wo-orld
The best guide isn’t written down: don’t be afraid to try a few instances until you find one you like!
Once you’re on Mastodon and following people, you’ll start to notice the servers and gravitate towards the ones you like.
I would advise against mastodon.social since it is the biggest and also has some problems with moderation. But some people like it, so maybe it is good enough also.
To choose a server, check out https://fedi.tips/which-server-should-i-join-how-do-i-find-out-more-about-a-server/
The fedi.tips account also posts a lot of helpful tips and themed lists of accounts to follow/discover so I recommend following them too!
