For some reason, every episode had me expecting that and then it would turn out to be amazing.
Edit to add: every episode I actually said, “this one will veer too far into teen drama, and I’ll have to drop out” but somehow they’d pull it off. It was really great television
I don’t usually give up on books, and it’s been a long time so it’s foggy, but my impression was that it was trying too hard to be harry potter/Narnia but adult! And edgy! And I couldn’t stand Quentin or really any of the characters. I only know one other person that’s experienced both and he also gave up on the book series.
Sometimes I am curious to try the books again now, but the show is so good I’d rather just rewatch it!
Loved The Magicians! I didn’t even make it through the first book and I can’t remember what on Earth convinced me to watch the show, but I’m so glad I got on board!

My kitty had to be put down on the 20th and we’d tried so hard with meds to get her better, but it got worse quickly. She was 17 1/2 years old and I’ve been having such a hard time with it, but also feeling bad for being so down right now. I think this will also take me months and years, but your story helped. We’ve definitely been trying to love and pamper our other twerps : )
I would say higher quality content in that the comments are pertinent and not just jokes. Sometimes I’d spend a couple of minutes reading nonsense on Reddit before realizing, then I’d try to scroll way down for a fresh comment thread, then just give up on the post

I never got this either. My niece would rather run around and play games while it was on so we never really sat and watched it all the way through, but she would play it on repeat and I thought it was fun

Having an ear for new languages and their pronunciation- I can memorize vocab and grammar quickly but what makes a big difference is being able to parse a conversation and pick out the pieces I don’t know or didn’t know until I heard it used. It makes it easier to dive in and learn as I go, which is so much faster, but unfortunately it also means I dabble a lot because I’m always wanting to try a new language.

That’s fair, and I do remember it being explicitly discussed and still I wasn’t into it. But I am always curious to try it out again. Art hits differently at different times, after all
