How is the internet supposed to work if we don’t agree on where every site goes? How are you supposed to decentralize a central agreement?

You can use whatever top level domain you want, you just have to convince everyone in the world to use your Root servers instead of ICANN, which ain’t gonna happen. Tor has the .onion TLD, etc. There are no restrictions here. They’re more like…agreements.
My windows installs (Win 10 IoT Edition) just boot directly to desktop. Dunno what you’ve borked there.
I don’t understand how this isn’t considered brigading.
This is literally dictating that people of X sub, are not allowed to post in Y sub. So if I have a community there, some other, larger community can essentially threaten the users of my community to not participate…
This shit is absolutely atrocious and shows how far we’ve fallen.
Microsoft almost got broken up as a company over simply BUNDLING a browser. Now they’re actively hijacking other installs to put big warnings up and redirecting to theirs. It’s absolutely bonkers this is allowed.
Well, when Russia is killing people who say mean things about them in other nations and not just on their territory, and China has a similar history…
Then you’re talking about putting a device with questionable intentions that you can’t verify on your home network? On your work network?
China has been specifically caught in the past, installing things on their devices meant for out-of-country shipment, specifically for the purposes of espionage.
That’s not NEARLY as slow as the cigarette method. The cigarette fuse was a 2 inch fuse for a 15-25 minute-ish delay.
You need time to not have to RUN away from things, you need to be able to casually stroll away so you don’t draw attention.
Rolled Cigarettes from pipe tobacco still works. I also love how you can tell the people replying to this with “Oh you can just [YouTube Video]!” – have never actually used the method I’m mentioning.
How slow is slow fuse? Because the cigarette method was basically a 2 inch, 20-30-minute timer that was available at every corner store imaginable. You could vary the time by getting shorts, or 110s, and the filter was good at holding normal fuse in place.
I really hate the new cigarettes that self-extinguish. My source for delay timer fuses now has to be self-rolled!
Ripped Nile Red and Nile Blue YouTube videos. And it would be in the form of a Torrent.
I don’t think Religion created our problems, I think we did. I think Religion is just our brains trying to maintain sanity. We can’t fathom “infinity”, we can’t fathom the times before or after our deaths. I think religion was just created by people who need to attribute something to that, so they can get their minds off of it.
It has been used as a weapon, for sure, but I don’t think there’s any getting rid of it. I think naturally we gravitate towards it due to our need to understand the world around us. When we get to something we can’t wrap our heads around - it’s easy to just explain it away with a story. Others will dive even deeper into understanding it (science and the scientific method)
The issue only centers around women’s sports, where – before the issue of trans topics ever came into play – It was illegal to modify your body and then compete.
So if you’re trans and you haven’t undergone any chemical transition - then you’re still a man, trying to compete in men’s sports.
And if you have undergone chemical transition, then you’ve modified your body and you’re disqualified from sports.
My opinion is they can still compete in men’s sports; since all men’s sports aren’t really “mens” sports, but an open category.
How does that amount to hating women again? Oh yeah, that’s right – IT DOESN’T. I don’t think they should be barred from bathrooms, I don’t think they should be discriminated against - but regardless - the rules are there, and EITHER way breaks those rules; rules which have been there since practically the beginning of competitive sport.
There’s a way to do this with an iGPU/dGPU pair. Essentially it means firing up the VM with dedicated GPU passthrough, and then remoting directly into it from the native install using something like Parsec; but if I recall there was a direct memory access way to get the passthrough GPU output to the main display as well; I just can’t remember it at the moment.
The alternative is having a monitor with dual/tri inputs, and swapping the output to the dedicated GPU. Maybe some trickery with a KVM to move the mouse/keyboard over.
https://looking-glass.io/ – This may be the other solution I was having trouble remembering.
Using something like “Barrier/Synergy” might be a software-solution for the KVM side of things. Some guys also just opt to have their dedicated GPU hooked up to a second, dedicated monitor.
edit Reading more into this, I missed the part where this was a laptop - you’re likely hosed. Laptop dedicated GPUs also run through the internal GPU; so technically you have 2 GPUs in your system - but from what I understand, they basically have dedicated switching hardware for handling the handoff, and I’m not sure modern laptops allow any such control over all of that.
No it doesn’t; they just moved the search bar to its own dedicated page, requiring a click.
CenturyLink is doing this to their customers too – Their contract says “If we raise the price, you can cancel the service with no penalties”
Doesn’t that fucking negate the WHOLE purpose of a price guarantee?
The purpose of the price guarantee is to guarantee having that service at that price. The guarantee is guarantee of service too.
I got banned from /c/news for having the wrong opinion about trans athletes in sports. So yeah, this place isn’t any better than Reddit.
Also the legal benefit of scraping the site without the YouTube API is that you haven’t had to accept their terms of service.
There’s an Android app called GrayJay that got a C&D from Google, and they told Google to kindly fuck off, because they hadn’t used any of Google’s APIs. Google had no leg to stand on.
Imagine genuinely thinking this.
It sounds almost like it’s falling back to USB2
There’s nothing to scale. DNS servers are just an address book. There’s only 200 million entries active and visited. 1.1b entries otherwise, which; for a computer isn’t a lot.
DNS servers replicate down-stream, and the root servers maintain authority. A local SQLite file could handle this easily, and you could always run your own DNS server locally if you wanted to. But there has to be a central authority. That’s why you can have any TLD you want – you run your own DNS. But since nobody sees you as an authority, they won’t be using your DNS.
